چکیده

We characterize the class of Arrovian Social Welfare Functions as integer solutions to a collection of linear inequalities. Many of the known results about impossibility, Arrovian Social Welfare Functions, properties of the majority rule etc., can be derived in a simple and unified way from this integer program. We characterize those preference domains that admit a non-dictatorial, neutral Arrovian Social Welfare Function. We characterize the class of anonymous and monotnic rules in terms of majority rule and give a polyhedral characterization of all Arrovian Social Welfare Functions on single-peaked domains. We then show how the approach can be used to derive results about social choice functions as well.

A New Nonlinear Multi-objective Redundancy Allocation Model with the Choice of Redundancy Strategy Solved by the Compromise Programming Approach

One of the primary concerns in any system design problem is to prepare a highly reliable system with minimum cost. One way to increase the reliability of systems is to use redundancy in different forms such as active or standby. In this paper, a new nonlinear multi- objective integer programming model with the choice of redundancy strategy and component type is developed where standby strategy ...

A mixed integer nonlinear programming model for optimizing a gas pipeline transmission linear network

The technical equipment developed and used in both installation and operation processes in refineries, oil and gas pipelines, and gas booster stations has always been expensive. Hence, managers at different organizational levels are keen to find methods to control and reduce these costs. Generally speaking, the operators in a gas booster station choose the operating devices without considering ...

Nondictatorial Arrovian Social Welfare Functions: An Integer Programming Approach∗

In the line opened by Kalai and Muller (1977), we explore new conditions on preference domains which make it possible to avoid Arrow’s impossibility result. In our main theorem, we provide a complete characterization of the domains admitting nondictatorial Arrovian social welfare functions with ties (i.e. including indifference in the range) by introducing a notion of strict decomposability. In...

Integer Programming and Nondictatorial Arrovian Social Welfare Functions

Following Sethuraman, Teo and Vohra ((2003), (2006)), we apply integer programming tools to the analysis of fundamental issues in social choice theory. We generalize Sethuraman et al.’s approach specifying integer programs in which variables are allowed to assume values in the set {0, 12 , 1}. We show that there exists a one-to-one correspondence between the solutions of an integer program defi...

Green Vehicle Routing Problem with Safety and Social Concerns

Over the two last decades, distribution companies have been aware of the importance of paying attention to the all aspects of a distribution system simultaneously to be successful in the global market. These aspects are the economic, the environmental, the social and the safety aspects. In the Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) literature, the economic issue has often been used, while the environmen...
